NOF4 tells the story of a brief moment in Oreste Fernando Nannetti’s life while sectioned in a psychiatric asylum in the second half of the 20th century. During his 30-year hospitalisation, Nanetti created one of the art brut masterpieces “The book of life”, a graffiti engraved on the walls of the court’s ward where he was kept. NOF4 aims to provoke in the audience the view of a fragment of Nannetti’s daily work on the graffiti: him waking up, exiting the courtyard, beginning to work non-stop, and then him going back to his room. The structure of the composition is a dialogue between the electronic and acoustic sections. The latter formed exclusively by the manipulation of clarinets acoustic samples. The sound of the bass clarinet represents the community who inhabited those places, whereas the sound of the B-flat clarinet is Nannetti’s voice, the individual who, through his painstaking and methodical strength, is able to emancipate himself from reclusion, form his unwanted and not chosen human condition, determined by others.

NOF4 racconta un breve momento della vita di Oreste Fernando Nannetti, internato psichiatrico vissuto nella seconda metà del XX secolo. Durante la sua degenza durata per più di trent’anni, Nannetti realizzò uno dei capolavori dell’art brut “Il libro della vita”, un graffito inciso lungo le mura del cortile del padiglione, dove era rinchiuso. NOF4 vuole provocare nell’ascoltatore la visione di un frammento della quotidianità lavorativa di Nannetti: il risveglio, l’uscita nel cortile, l’inizio del suo incessante lavoro e il rientro nella sua camera d’internato. La struttura della composizione è un dialogo tra la parte acustica e quella elettronica, quest’ultima costruita esclusivamente con la manipolazione dei campioni acustici dei clarinetti. Il suono del clarinetto basso rappresenta la collettività, la popolazione che abitava quei luoghi mentre il suono clarinetto in si bemolle è la voce di Nannetti, l’individuo, che attraverso la sua sola forza, paziente, metodica, coriacea riesce ad emanciparsi dalla reclusione, dalla sua condizione umana non voluta né decisa, di cui sempre altri ne hanno determinato il decorso.
